overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow. so a spot shower or two across southeastern mass through the morning hours. otherwise warm. temperatures close to 80 with returning sun this afternoon. more on that forecast ahead. >> sarah: all right. time now for fast track traffic with kris anderson in again for danielle gersh. >> kris: good morning. happy tuesday, everyone. live look outside. tough to see much. a few cars going over the zakim bidge. 93 into boston, smooth sailing. take a look at the maps. no real problems to talk about. w head out. lots of green. a little yellow as you get closer to boston. from the split, 23, 95 connecting to 128. all smooth sailing there. turnpike is clear. the mass pike all the way in is looking good. north of the city, no problems on 93, 495 or 128. so heading out now would be great if you want to go now and not run into any traffic problems. take a look at those drive times. we'll show you what you're dealing with really quickly.

>> all right. kris, thank you. a wanted suspect now off the streets. the man investigators believe is behind a string of explosions in new york, and in new jersey, is in custody. so right now ahmad khan rahami is facing five counts of attempted murder of a police officer after a violent shoot-out. >> sarah: as of this morning federal charges have not been filed. 7's dan hausle live if new jersey with the latest on the terror takedown. >> dan: khan rahami wounded but captured aheat wave after a desperate shoot-out on the streets of new jersey. >> i heard gunshots, boom, boom, boom. >> dan: one of the officers were hit, saved by his kevlar vest. rahami, seen in this cell phone video, trying to run from police. harry bane is the bar owner who told the police he thought the man was the suspect whose picture was blasted all over the tv and internet. >> that guy looked exactly like

>> dan: what happened when the police came up to him? >> it was like 20 seconds. that's when he went for his gun. the cop took out his gun, an he just shot, boom, boom. >> dan: rahami's father spoke to nbc news. >> did you know your son was doing this? >> no. >> you had no idea? >> dan: investigators have evidence that ties rahami that to the bomb in pressure cooker nearby, the pipe bomb in a charity run and the pipe bombs also found in new jersey, one exploding when a police robot cut a wire. new yorkers responded to police calls to help. a building superintendent showed me some of the surveillance pictures he gave investigators showing rahami dragging a suitcase police think contained the pressure cooker device. james shriveman spotted the

>> there was something weird about it. i came back and took a second look, an i thought it was suspicious, so i called 911. >> dan: do you feel like a belated hero? >> no. anyone would have done that. >> dan: president obama called the thank the officers who survived the final face-off and helped wring the bombing suspect search to a swift end. >> i communicated to them how appreciative the american people were, as well as people in the region. >> dan: rahami remains hospitalized. held on $5.2 million bail and facing five charges of attempted murder of a police officer. in linden, new jersey, dan hausle, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: as we've been reporting trrk are many similarities to the bounds found in this investigation and the bounds left at the finish line of the boston marathon years ago. let's go to 7's byron barnett. buy aren't, what's new this morning, apparently investigators are looking at a note they found praising the tsarnaev brothers? >> byron: that's right. from the very beginning there

comparisons between the new york bombing and the bombing here at the boston marathon. now there appears to be a direct connection involving the tsarnaev brothers. from the surveillance video to the shoot-out with police to the pressure cooker loaded with bbs and ball bearings, there are striking similarities between the new york terror takedown and the boston marathon bombings, but now a direct link. cnn reporting that a note found on the unexploded bomb in manhattan mentioned the boston marathon tsarnaev brothers. the pressure cooker bomb that failed to explode was the same sort of improvised device that killed three people and wounded more than 260 in the boston marathon attack. one of the big questions that remains unanswered: did ahmad khan rahami work alone? former boston police commissioner ed davis does not think so. >> they don't do this by looking at the internet. they have to have someone show them how to do it.

he's facing domestic violence charges but he's been allowed back in the classroom. victoria warren is live with more on the school's decision. vicki? >> victoria: good morning. some people very surprised by this decision. you have a teacher placed on leave after he was arrested, accused of hitting his girlfriend. now that teacher is once again allowed to be with students. all of this happening at wilmington high school, and he's a gym teacher with more than a decade of experience. now anthony altieri is back in the building after paying $1,000 bail after police say he smashed his girlfriend's face into a door frame, possibly breaking her nose. school officials are aware of concerns but in a statement they say they have looked at this issue from multiple perspectives, including mr. altieri's record as an educator in wilmington for the past 13 years. we would not have returned

did not pose a threat. the school district says kids say they will continue monitor this case as it goes through the court system. live this morning in wilmington, victoria warren, 7news "today in new england." ism right now police in maynard are continuing to investigate a bomb threat. authorities believe it is a hoax. bag of shotgun cases were found near a house. the bull cases referenced terrorism and a bomb on a bus in town. police do in the believe there is a threat. >> christa: the patriots headed back the practice this afternoon. they are facing a texas-sized task when houston comes to town thursday. the pats turning to their next in line after jimmy garoppolo went down with an injury. now tom brady is weighing in on where the team goes from here. so for the latest on that, let's head out live to gillette.

>> sarah: welcome back. 5:15. weather... weather? it feels like not like september weather. >> chris: backing up to july. wetter weather. say that five times fast. we do have one more day of this we'll keep the warm air around the next couple day, but in terms of the humidity, over and done with that for today. taking a look at the last 24 hours where you see this green stripe, southern new hampshire, back into northern worcester county, picked up 1 to 3 inches of rain, also picked up 1 to 2 inches of rain down across buzzards bay and the cape and the islands. look who missed out, boston, points south. we picked up a couple tenths of an inch to about one-third of an inch of water, but not the big dense water we needed here in

in some of the rivers and streams in the boston metro area. it was beneficial across portions of southern new hampshire and northern mass. still a couple lingering showers this morning. they are passing through block island, sneaking into buzzards bay and across the cape. so once in a rile across southeastern mass, especially south of route 44 here in southern plymouth and southern bristol county, i do expect a passing shower or two. otherwise murky start, muggy start, temperatures mid to upper 60s. we have some areas of fog, as well, locally points north and east. the dew point into the mid to upper 60s. there's your humidity. doesn't feel like fall this morning. that's upon us here. officially, astronomically speaking, we start fall on thursday. winds light out of the south. you have to change the direction to the west to start to clear on out. you have a couple showers skirting the coastline of southern new england through southeastern mass right along the stalled-out boundary. that's stuck across the east coast. very slow to press off to the

lakes gets closer to us, you kind of edge down that cloud cover. so i think we'll see some sun this afternoon, especially north and west of boston. southeastern mass, maybe a bit of a struggle at times to get enough sun through the day. 80s as far as the eye can see back into the midwest in minneapolis and chicago, detroit. this is the weather that will be working on in over the next couple days. so we keep the warmth, but we change up the humidity. we have that lower humanity with brighter skies on wednesday and into thursday, and then as we get into thursdayig clouds to the north of us start to work on in. tropical storm carl out in the middle of the atlantic. a tropical storm now is expected to become a hurricane. it curls near bermuda if not just to the east of it, running parallel to the east coast and getting kicked off east-northeast. no threat to the united states. 76 to 83. coolest across southeastern mass. close to 80 in boston. even some 83s and 84s

through the merrimack valley. clearing overnight tonight. still some cloudiness down to buzzards bay, the cape and the islands. the theme here is dry it out, lower the humidity. we are warm through the end of the week. huge change-up for the weekend. look at that. 60s and breezy. >> christa: right now the acluo oklahoma is calling for criminal charges in a police-involved shooting in tulsa, oklahoma. >> christa: outrage is growing after the release of video after it shows the victim had his arms in the air. jennifer eagan has more. >> jennifer: that officer is off the job, and no protests are greg as people are getting a glimpse of the shocking video. the shooting friday evening seen from multiple angels. tulsa police officers responding to an unrelated call when they spot terence crutcher's stalled s.u.v. police say crutcher approaches officers when they arrive but refuses to follow their commands.

he needed just 89 pitches to do it. porcello is a cy young award candidate and the first-place red sox are now four games up on the orioles. mookie betts keeps on dominating in baltimore. top of the third, he launches his eighth home run of the season at camden yards. david ortiz also going deep last night. but this night was all about porcello, striking out seven in a complete-game effort, allowing just two run, lowering his e.r.a. to sox win it 5-2, even with jimmy garoppolo recovering from a sprained a.c. joint in his throwing shoulder, the patriots reportedly not planning to bring in a veteran back-up quarterback. so there is a chance garoppolo could back up rookie jacoby brissett on thursday night against the texans, and tom brady says jimmy g will do all he can to get back on the field. >> it's a tough thing to injure your throwing shoulder.

to get to work and to school this morning. look at that fog. chris, it's crazy out there. >> chris: pea soup weather. taking a look at that. you can barely see some of the headlines. we've had reduced visibility, especially north of boston. i believe that was route 1 in saugus there. taking a look at a couple showers working in across southern bristol county. a lot of us are seeing the rain, and a lot of us by this afternoon will see a transition to brightening of the skies. in fact, patches of blue beginningo afternoon, especially north and west of boston. here are the temperatures. upper 60s, dew points side by side, so when you have that and you're close to 100% relative humidity, we'll have low-level moisture in place with very light wind. long overnights conducive for fog to form. patchy fog, murky start. a couple showers across far southeastern mass. otherwise we'll warm it up. breaks of sun. temperatures close to 80. warm week ahead but a much cooler week following. guys. >> christa: all right.

morning. >> kris: another headache to deal with this morning. a live look outside. this is the expressway. light traffic this morning. it's still very early. if you're headed out now, it's a great time to get to where you're going. we have one issue to tell you about in chelsea. there's water on the roadway, not because of rain but because of a water main break that's on murray street and only one lane is open there, so just keep that in mind if you're on route 16 westbound at route 1. you'll have that water main break to deal with. about ten minutes from the split up to the tun and 95 connecting with 128. slowdowns as you get closer to the braintree split there. turnpike, the mass pike looking good as you get all the way into boston and north of the city. no real issues to tell you about. 93 is clear and smooth sailing all the way into the city. an let's take a look at the drive times and show you what you're dealing work ten minutes split to the tunnel, 128 to 93, 12 minutes. and about 11 minutes, 128 to the zakim bridge. back to you, guys. >> sarah: a terror takedown in new jersey.

allegedly has ties to explosions in new york and new jersey over the weekend. ahmad khan rahami was wounded in a shoot-out with police on monday. investigators say they have evidence that ties them to the bomb that injured 29 people in new york city. the one that exploded at a charity run in new jersey and two others. they're facing attempted murder charges. so far no federal charges have been filed. police are trying the figure out if rahami was working alone. >> christa: and hillary clinton and donald trump following these recent attacks. let's go to 7's jennifer eagan with what the candidates are saying. jen? >> jennifer: christa, this morning both candidates are speaking out about the recent attacks in the new york city area. donald trump is blaming the attacks on president obama and hillary clinton's immigration policies. but clinton is saying trump's rhetoric on muslims is helping isis with its recruitment. in a recent poll, voters are saying clinton would make a better commander-in-chief, but trump would be better with handling terrorism.

tossed two two-year-old boys out of a first-floor window on sunday. the children had some scrapes and bruises. they are now in state custody. >> sarah: new details on a deadly crash at a newton pizza shop. attorneys for the driver say his multiple sclerosis caused him to lose control of his vehicle back in march. 65-year-old bradford casler appeared in cower monday. he pleaded not guilty to two counts of motor vehicle homicide and operating to endanger. prosecutors say he was not having a medical episode when he plowed into the sweet tomatoes restaurant killing two people and injuring seven others. >> the gentleman suffers from multiple sclerosis. he has for about 27 years. an we all know the effects of multiple sclerosis. >> one witnessed described the defendant's vehicle as if accelerateing with the engine

>> christa: casler will be back in court next month. >> sarah: another person has had charged dropped after a breech at the department's evidence room. investigators say nearly 500,000 dollars has been stolen along with thousands of pieces of evidence, including guns, drugs and personal property. >> it's really surprising and i'm very disappointed in the police department allowing this to happen. and, of course, you know, that puts system and, you know, the innocence or guilt of many defendants. >> sarah: many more cases are expected to be dismissed after a recent audit of the police department. >> christa: new this morning, the mbta is looking now into buying dozens of new red line cars. according to the "globe," the "t" is looking to spend $200 million to replace a total of 86 cars. the "t" is also looking to add even more cars in hopes to increase capacity on the red

the pilgrim nuclear power plant in plymouth back up and running today after it had to be shut down for more than a week. the power plant was shut down for a total of 12 days. this was for repairs due to issues with a valve that generates steam. and officials say the public was not in danger. >> sarah: downtown crossing has closed its coarse. the clothing store going out of business after 15 years in that location. in a statement, h&m said closing the store was necessary in order to look for the open new distorts. industry experts say an upcoming increase in rent and competition from other stores in the area could be to blame. new this morning amazon is opening a bookstore in dedham. the company says it's hiring people to work in the legacy place mall. it will be amazon's third bookstore in the country. the stores sell hard cover and paperback books and also feature amazon's popular cingsd l devices. there's no word yet on when the

right now ahmad khan rahami is facing five counts of attempted murder of a police officer. >> christa: we understand more federal charges could be on the way, as well. for the latest, let's go to 7's jennifer eagan. jen? >> jennifer: christa, police say the suspect has ties to the explosions in new york and new jersey over the weekend. ahmad khan rahami was wounded in a shoot-out with police yesterday. investigators say they have evidence that ties him to the bomb that injured 29 people in new york city and the device that exploded at a charity run in new jersey. they also say he's responsible filled with explosives in elizabeth, new jersey, and another pressure cooker bomb that never exploded in manhattan. rahami is facing attempted murder charges for the shoot-out with police. so far no charges have been filed in connection with the bombs, though. federal investigators are building their case right now. police are trying to figure out if rahami was working alone. in the newsroom, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: new details regarding the murder of two nuns

the rest of the work week. we do lower the humanity. >> christa: how is the morning drive? here is chris. tell us more about that this morning. >> chris: christa, we're in rush hour. a lot of slow going. this is a live look at the expressway. the good news is traffic is moving relatively smoothly here. there are problems further to the south. let's go to the maps and show you what we're dealing with this morning. it's going to take you 30 minutes to get to the split from the tunnel. a lot of that has to do with a couple accidents that have popped up, this one on route 3 rt northbound at 128. lots of red on the maps because of those crashes there. there's an accident, route 9 eastbound at dudley road, and then there's some other problems to the north up in methuen there's an accident. 93 southbound at 110. then there's a water main break in chelsea. that's causing problems on 16 westbound at route 1. only one lane open there because of that. let's go to the maps and let's go to the drive times and show you what we're getting. 27 minutes.

pack your patience. >> sarah: now to the terror takedown. did he act alone? that's the question surrounding the bombing suspect captured in new jersey. right now he's being held on more than $5 million bail. >> christa: this morning investigators want to locate two men seen in surveillance handling those pressure cooker bombs. so for the latest on that and the investigation, we check in with 7's dan hausle in new york. >> dan: well, they've cleaned explosion, but if you look around, you can still see pieces of the glass that was flying all around here. behind me you can see the window broken in the bomb blast. two men may have accidentally disabled a bomb after the suspect placed it a few blocks from here in manhattan. police arrested ahmad khan rahami saying he has ties to explosions in new york and new

shoot-out with police in new jersey before he was arrested. investigators think in addition to the two explosions rahami is also tied to a backpack full of pipe bombs found, one going off in elizabeth, new jersey, when a police robot tried to disarm it. investigators also saying that rahami is behind a pressure cooker device that was found here in new york but never went off. now police want to talk to two men they have on surveillance they say the man tried to get it out of a duffel bag or a suitcase and a white plastic bag that rahami left it in. and what may have happened police are saying, these men looking for stuff may have actually broken, disabled this device, and that may be why it didn't go off. they left taking the bag and apparently leaving that bomb behind. this all happened about 20 minutes after rahami is believed to have dropped off the bomb

rahami is now facing charges in connection with that police shoot-out, but in federal charges yet in connection with the bombing here. investigators don't have to worry about his getting away. he's in a hospital, more than $5 million bail. but investigators continue to try to work the case, continue the try to see if anybody helped rahami. they say they don't believe there was any big terror cell of people who helped him, but they are investigating to see if anybody had any role to play. gh rahami is the only suspect they are seeking. live in new york city, dan hausle, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: check in on some of the day east other top stories now. a teacher at wilmington high school is back on the job after being charged with domestic violence. he was arrested last week after police say he beat a woman inside of his home. the teacher had been on paid administrative leave. the school says he does not pose a threat to the students and they want the let the case play out in court before taking action. so the patriots return to

houston. jimmy garoppolo is dealing with an injury to the ac joint in his right shoulder, so it seems likely that rookie q.b. jacoby brissett will be getting the start. espn is reporting that the pats do not plan on adding another q.b. the their roster. >> 15 criminal cases have been dismissed in response to the braintree police department's evidence scandal. the most recent person to have charges dropped after a breech at the department's evidence room. investigators saying nearly 5000 along with thousands of pieces of evidence including guns, drugs and personal property. many more cases are expected to be dismissed after a recent audit of the department. >> christa: lawyers for the driver involved in that deadly crash at a newton pizza shop say that his multiple sclerosis caused him to lose control of his vehicle. 55-year-old bradford casler appeared in court monday. he pleaded not guilty to two counts of motor vehicle and operating to endanger. prosecutors say he was not,

after being charged with domestic assault. let's head out live to wilmington and 7's victoria warren has more. >> victoria: good morning. some people really surprised by this move by the school. we have a teacher who was arrested who was placed on administrative leave but now the school has decided that he can once again be inside the school with students. we're talking about a gym teacher at wilmington high school, a teacher with more than a decade of experience. now, mr. anthony altieri is back in paying a $1,000 bail in an assault case where police say he smashed his girlfriend's face into a door frame, possibly breaking her nose. school officials say they're aware of concerns but in a statement say the t school district has looked at this issue from multiple perspectives, including reviewing mr. altieri's record as an educator in wilmington for the past 13 years. "we could not have returned mr. altieri to his position if
